Ventura College Dance Department Newsletter
Fall 2014
Hello Returning and New Students of Ventura College Dance Department!
The 2014-2015 academic year is upon us already! What a fantastic year we had in 2013-2014. Performance classes (Dance V30 A and B) successfully showcased their abilities at two publicly attended concerts, the Fall Dance Concert “Codec” and the Spring Dance Concert “Variables”. The Ventura College dancers along with VC faculty member Trevelyn Yahr performed at seven local county high schools as part of the VC Spring Dance Outreach Program. The dance department is dedicated to developing courses to fulfill the needs of our community. After much research our department will be offering the following new classes in the 2014-2016 school years; Dance History (Dance V02) Fall and Spring, Improvisation (Dance V04) Spring and Anatomy for the Dancers (Dance V03) Spring. We continued to expand and develop the department giving our students a top-notch dance education and had fun doing it. Now we need your support.
We are facing some challenges as we head into the 2014-2015 academic year. Classes across campus will be dismissed if enrollment is not at 20 students by the first day of instruction; we encourage you to enroll early this semester to ensure the dance departments and your continued growth. If you find you are having trouble registering for classes due to prerequisite requirements please contact the department immediately so we can help remedy the situation for you.
Exciting news is in the near future for us. Our pedagogy (dance teaching) classes, if enrollment improves, will be offered in the 2015-2016 school year. A soon to come AA in Dance is set up and waiting approval from the state, please check the course catalog on page 153 to see requirements and the benefits of working towards the AA in Dance.
Faculty are continuing to modify their curriculum to include new and exciting advancements in the field of contemporary dance. We want every student in our department to gain up to date knowledge and necessary skills to succeed in their academic and professional dance careers.
